Penn State Football Sees Key Player Among Transfer Portal Entrants

Penn State Football

Penn State Football is heading into one of its biggest seasons in program history because the Big Ten is expanding, adding four new teams in Oregon, USC, UCLA, and Washington. You can’t get behind these four teams if you’re the Nittany Lions.

Oregon and USC are some outstanding football teams with some excellent head coaches in Dan Lanning and Lincoln Riley so that they will take a lot of work, but Penn State got some bad news on Thursday that could’ve played a role in helping them compete this season.

According to Matt Zentiz from 247sports.com, second-year defensive back King Mack is expected to enter the transfer portal.

Mack enrolled at Penn State in May of 2023 and was a four-star recruit and the sixth-best safety in the 2023 class, according to 247sports.com.

The freshman defensive back appeared in 13 games last season, recording three total tackles.

The spring transfer portal closed on Wednesday, but players who submitted their paperwork can still enter, so more Nittany Lions could be heading to the portal.

King was supposed to play a role in this year’s defense, and the defense had already suffered a significant blow this offseason when defensive coordinator Manny Diaz left after a great season and took the Duke head coaching job.

The excellent news for Penn State’s defense is that they have one of the country’s best players, Edge Abdul Carter, who could be a Top-Five pick in next year’s NFL Draft.
However, the Nittany Lions still need to figure out things on the back end, and we will have to see if they can do it.
