Penn State Football has had an issue making the College Football Playoff in years past because it couldn’t get past Ohio State.
The Nittany Lions haven’t beaten the Buckeyes since 2016, and even that year, Penn State won the Big Ten but still didn’t get in the playoffs because it had two losses while Ohio State only had one.
The Nittany Lions get to host the Buckeyes this year on Saturday, November 2nd, and they have a great chance of winning the game and the most critical position battle in the contest will be at quarterback.
We already know about the starting quarterback for the Nittany Lions in Drew Allar, but let’s learn more about the potential starter for the Buckeyes, Will Howard.

Penn State Football’s Drew Allar vs. Will Howard: Tale of The Tape
Howard and Devin Brown will compete for the quarterback position this fall in Columbus, but Howard seems likely to be the starter. Howard was part of the 2020 recruiting class and is familiar with Penn State because he is from Downingtown, Pennsylvania.
Howard attended Kansas State and played in 34 games for the Wildcats, throwing for 5,786 yards, 48 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions. The 6-foot-4, 235-pound quarterback can also run the ball, rushing for 921 yards and 19 scores since 2020.
Howard decided to leave Manhattan, Kansas, this winter and try to take Ohio State to the playoffs and win the title.
The former Kansas State quarterback is very talented, but Allar should be the better quarterback in this game, and he also has a higher upside.
Penn State should be able to shake Howard’s confidence a little, being at home, and it should set up a nice day for Allar and the Nittany Lions offense to do some damage.
November is still a long time away, but it will be one of the best games on the college football calendar when this game comes.
