Cael Sanderson and the Nittany Lions once again hit the transfer portal, as they just landed one of the top guys in the nation.
Bernie Truax, who originally attended and wrestled for Cal Poly since 2019, just announced he was committing to Penn State. He’ll have one year of eligibility for the Lions.
And, this is something that has been a dream of Truax from early childhood.

Truax was born and bred in California where he attended Rancho Buena Vista High School. There, he compiled a 46-6 record his junior season while winning the CIF-San Diego Section Division I Championships, finishing runner up at the Masters Meet, fifth in the Battle for the Belt, and was runner up in the state finals.
Bernie continued his winning ways his senior campaign by putting together a 43-5 record, finished third in the state tournament, and first in the CIF-San Diego Section Division II finals.
Following high school, it was no surprise that Bernie stayed in-state as he committed to wrestle for Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo County. And this is where he really started to shine as a collegiate wre
Truax took home his first All-American honors during the 2020-2021 season by finishing fourth in the 2021 NCAA Championships at 174. And he continued to churn out All-American finishes by also finishing fourth in the 2022 NCAA’s (184) and the 2023 NCAA’s (197).
The departure of Max Dean after the most recent NCAA Championships left a large hole in the Nittany Lion lineup at 197. And now with the commitment of Bernie Truax, Cael Sanderson and his world class coaching staff and wrestling room are sure to unleash the absolute best out of him.
