Penn State Football added a key piece to its 2024 recruiting class on Friday morning with the addition of 4-star defensive tackle Liam Andrews.
The 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive tackle picked the Nittany Lions over Wisconsin and South Carolina. He is the 23rd commit in the 2024 class.
This is a major get for first-year defensive line coach Deion Barnes for multiple reasons.
The first reason is that Barnes is showing his abilities as a recruiter. Andrews is a top-100 recruit, and although Penn State did have geographical advantage with Andrews being from Massachusetts, this wasn’t an easy recruitment to win.
South Carolina has the lure of being in the SEC, and has one of the best NIL collectives in the country.
Meanwhile, Wisconsin is also on a recruiting high with new head coach Luke Fickell leading the way. This is one Barnes had to win and he did.

What Liam Andrews Brings Penn State Football
Penn State Football also needed to add some more size at the defensive tackle position, and it did just that with Andrews.
247 Sports lists Andrews at 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds, so while he will need to add some weight to play defensive tackle in the Big Ten, he has the frame to do so.
A 6-foot-5, 300 + pound defensive tackle is exactly what the Nittany Lions have been missing.
Lastly, the 2024 recruiting class continues to improve.
Andrews is the 15th 4-star recruit in Penn State’s class. The class currently ranks sixth in the nation and will have a chance to stay in the top ten as the cycle goes on. Andrews is also the highest rated defensive player in the class. This was a huge win for Penn State Football.
