Sean Clifford Will be Packers’ Backup QB

Penn State Football

Former Penn State Football quarterback Sean Clifford was one of the NFL’s most pleasant preseason surprises, and has now parlayed a strong summer into a prominent role as a rookie.

According to Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LeFleur, Clifford will open the season as Jordan Love’s primary backup.

Through Green Bay’s first two preseason games, Clifford has passed for 345 yards with one touchdown to two interceptions, as the regular season opener looms against the Chicago Bears on Sept. 10.

The Packers chose Clifford in the fifth-round of April’s NFL Draft, and he’s turned plenty of heads throughout the offseason.

Clifford completed 61.4 percent of his passes during six seasons in Happy Valley, compiling 10,661 yards with 86 touchdowns to 31 interceptions with New Year’s Six Bowl victories in the Cotton Bowl and Rose Bowl on his Nittany Lions resumé.

Now, Clifford is one play away at any given moment from taking the field, as the Packers’ No. 2 quarterback.
