Penn State Football has been recruiting at an elite level for multiple years now, and the talent being amassed by the Nittany Lions‘ staff in Happy Valley just keeps getting better and better.
On Thursday, 247 Sports updated its 2024 recruiting class player rankings and multiple Penn State commits were big risers. The most notable being tight end commit Luke Reynolds, who is now a 5-star and the No. 1 tight end in the class.
Penn State Football Commit Luke Reynolds Rises
The story of Reynolds’ journey through the recruiting rankings is a special one. When the tight end from Connecticut committed to the Nittany Lions in March, he was ranked in the 900s in the 247 Sports rankings.
Many wonder why Penn State, a school known for recruiting high-level tight ends, would take a kid ranked so low so early in the cycle.
Well, we now see why as Reynolds is the top dog among all tight ends in this class.
Just a fantastic job of scouting by the Penn State staff.

Penn State quarterback commit Ethan Grunkemeyer also rose in the rankings. The 4-star from Ohio went from the No. 201 player in the cycle to No. 98. Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Mike Yurcich has now landed two top 100 quarterback commits in the last three years. Something Penn State football is certainly not used to.
Another big riser was offensive tackle Garrett Sexton. The athletic tackle from Wisconsin went from the No. 429 player in the class to No. 161, a monster jump this late in the cycle.
Penn State Football is looking for another top ten recruiting class, and it may get there with talent like this.
