Chris Godwin Cashes in on NFL Free Agency Mega-Deal
Former Penn State standout wide receiver Chris Godwin will return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next season on a three-year, $66 million contract.
Godwin and Tampa Bay lock up a new deal for the star wide receiver to return to Tampa Bay as the legal tampering window opened Monday. In Godwin’s new contract, $44 million of the $66 million contract is guaranteed at signing, which could be very important for Godwin returning from a dislocated ankle that ended his 2024 season.

Chris Godwin has spent his entire eight-year NFL career in Tampa Bay, including winning a Super Bowl with the Buccaneers in 2021. Over his eight seasons in Tampa Bay, Godwin has accumulated 579 receptions, 7,266 yards, and 39 touchdowns over 111 games. In 2024, Godwin caught 50 passes for 576 yards and five touchdowns before his season ending ankle dislocation in week seven.

Before being drafted by Tampa Bay in 2017, Godwin spent three seasons with the Penn State Nittany Lions, helping lift the Nittany Lions to their last Big Ten Championship in 2016.
Godwin caught 154 passes for 2,421 yards and 18 touchdowns over three seasons with the Nittany Lions. Godwin ranks eighth all-time at Penn State in career receptions and sixth in career receiving yards.
Godwin’s new contract pushes his career NFL earnings to over $164 million. His $22 million per year contract ranks third on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in base salary for the 2025 season behind only Baker Mayfield and Tristan Wirfs.
