Penn State Football starting quarterback Drew Allar spoke to the media for the first time this spring over a zoom call Wednesday. In his first media availability this spring, Allar discussed what is different for the third year quarterback this spring compared to the 2023 season.
According to the returning starter, he’s letting out his “more competitive” side this spring.
“I feel like I play at my best when I’m loose,” Allar told reporters. Free, and confident and just having fun out there. I think I’ve done a lot better job with that.”
Allar and the rest of the offense is spending the spring picking up new offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki’s offense.
The former five-star noted that he’s feeling “real comfortable right now” with the new offense, a sentiment he echoed about the rest of the skilled position players as well.

What Drew Allar is Doing Differently This Offseason
In responding to a question from the Daily Collegian’s Seth Engle, Allar also noted that he’s changed his eating habits this spring. The quarterback said he is staying around the same weight (240-243 pounds), but becoming “more fluid” with his movements.
Throughout spring practice during the media availability windows, Allar and the rest of the Penn State quarterbacks can be seen running option and mobility drills, and throwing off balance on the run.

Although Allar tied for the Big Ten lead in passing touchdowns in 2023, there is still plenty of room for growth for Allar to hit his ceiling.
For Penn State Football to break through to the college football playoff for the first time in 2024, Penn State fans should hope that Allar’s increased confidence carries over into the fall.
