Drew Allar Ignites Expectations as Penn State Football Explodes Past WVU | QB Report Card

After spending months belittling Penn State Football quarterback Drew Allar, calling him “Drew Allan” and daring him to beat the Mountaineers, Allar did just that Saturday. Penn State’s offense started slow on the first two drives of the game.

However, after getting comfortable, Allar and the Nittany Lions picked apart the Mountaineer defense en route to a 34-12 Penn State victory.

In the first half, Allar passed for 199 yards and three touchdowns.

Allar got the scoring started early in the second quarter with a 50-yard touchdown to Harrison Wallace III. One drive later, Allar hit running back Kaytron Allen for a 20-yard score. Finally, on the final drive of the first half, Allar led Penn State down the field in under 30 second, hitting Omari Evans for 55 yards and Harrison Wallace III for an 18-yard touchdown pass on consecutive plays with six seconds remaining in the half to put Penn State up 20-6.

In the second half, Allar showed off his increased comfort running the football in 2024.

On the day, Allar rushed six times for 44 yards, averaging 7.3 yards per carry. Allar looked much more comfortable moving in the pocket and more decisive choosing when to take off and rush when no one is open.

Allar even picked up a crucial third down by stiff-arming West Virginia linebacker Josiah Trotter into the ground and stretching out for the first down.

Overall, to steal a quote from NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky, Allar looked “the best he ever has in a Penn State uniform” against West Virginia Saturday.

Allar finished with 216 passing yards and three touchdowns before being subbed out for backup Beau Pribula in the fourth quarter. Allar proved that he can win a game for Penn State and the development he showed against WVU should go along way to him earning national respect this season.
