Former Penn State Football standout Joey Porter Jr., following in his father’s footsteps, is poised to make an immediate impact on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense.
According to an anonymous NFC Personnel Executive, Porter Jr.‘s skills and potential were highly regarded by evaluators across the league.
“He’s a man-press corner with great size and length,” The Personnel Executive told Heavy.com. “He may really struggle playing man-of coverage. But, he’s a really solid player, and I feel he got drafted where he should have both in terms of the round and landing with the Steelers.”
After being chosen No. 32 overall by the Steelers in this spring’s draft, Porter Jr. has had the opportunity to learn from one of the players that he’s patterned his game after his entire life.
With the guidance of NFL veteran Patrick Peterson, Porter Jr. is honing his skills and preparing to shine on the field.
“Without him, I wouldn’t be able to learn so much about the game so fast like I am right now,” Porter recently told Steelers.com
Their bond has strengthened as Peterson shares his knowledge and experience, setting the stage for Porter Jr.’s success.

Joey Porter Jr. Vaults to Top of Steelers’ Depth Chart
With only Steelers rookie minicamp and a handful of OTA practices under his belt, Porter Jr. is already listed as one of Pittsburgh’s starting outside cornerbacks.
Given Peterson’s versatility, and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin’s plans to deploy the 12-year veteran at safety, there’s a good chance Porter Jr. walks into an immediate starting role this fall.
Although his interception numbers may not stand out, quarterbacks often avoided challenging him during his time at Penn State.
Porter Jr.’s ability to neutralize top receivers sets him apart and promises a bright future.
With the help of Patrick Peterson taking Porter Jr. under his wing, the stage seems set for the former Nittany Lions‘ star to have an exciting NFL career. With the Steelers, Porter Jr. has found the perfect environment to hone his skills and make an immediate impact.
