Penn State Football: 3 New Transfer Portal Targets for Nittany Lions

Penn State Football

With Penn State Football officially in offseason mode following the Nittany Lions‘ loss to Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl, Penn State with its two new coordinators have fully shifted into roster-building season.

With now glaring holes in the roster from NFL Draft declarations, and more expected with transfers from the program, the staff must now look to the transfer portal to address team needs before next season.

3 Players Penn State Football Should Pursue in Transfer Portal

1. Temple OT Victor Stoffel

Penn State Football will lose both starting offensive tackles this year to the NFL Draft in Caedan Wallace and Olu Fashanu.

With previously committed developmental transfer portal OT Alan Herron now officially off to Maryland, Penn State Football still has a desire to bring in depth to compete at the tackle position.

Former Temple offensive tackle Victor Stoffel started at right tackle for the Owls, playing 875 snaps and only allowing two sacks on the season. The in-state transfer portal prospect would have the opportunity to come in and compete for the starting spot at right tackle for Penn State heading into 2024.

Temple offensive lineman Victor Stoffel entered the transfer portal earlier this morning.

2. Texas A&M CB Tony Grimes

Another position where Penn State lost a ton of talent to the NFL Draft is cornerback.

This was evident in the Peach Bowl, as Penn State was missing starters Johnny Dixon and Kalen King. With Daequan Hardy also headed to the NFL, Penn State will be down its top three corners from 2023.

Former five-star cornerback Tony Grimes had stops at both North Carolina and Texas A&M so far, but had interest in Penn State out of high school.

Talking about Penn State cornerbacks coach Terry Smith during his recruitment, Grimes called Smith his “favorite coach for a long time.”

In three college seasons, Grimes has totaled one interception, one forced fumble, 19 pass deflections, and 97 total tackles.

Before ultimately picking North Carolina in his initial recruitment, Tony Grimes told 247Sports that Penn State cornerbacks coach Terry Smith has “been my favorite coach for a long time.”

Now, he’s back in the portal after a season at Texas A&M. More here. https://t.co/lDzL46u3xn

3. Ohio State WR Noah Rogers

Even before the Peach Bowl, Penn State Football had been looking for more talent at wide receiver in the transfer portal, as the Lions’ receiver production was low this season.

Penn State is expected to get Julian Fleming from Ohio State to bolster competition at the position. Another former Ohio State wide receiver, former five-star Noah Rogers, entered the portal Sunday.

Rogers did not record any stats this season for the Buckeyes.

From North Carolina, Penn State may face an uphill battle trying to pry Rogers from NC State, which was one of Rogers top schools out of high school.

Penn State Football faces a pivotal offseason with two new coordinators as the playoff expands to 12 teams. Penn State has the opportunity to take a step forward as the Big Ten expands or take a step back and face even more questions about the Nittany Lions future.

James Franklin‘s team has a lot of talent coming back in 2024, but Penn State could use transfer portal help at a few key positions to bolster the Nittany Lions depth and competition ahead of 2024.
