Friday, it was made official that Kayden Mingo will don the blue and white for Penn State Basketball next season.
Mingo, a native of the NYC metro area, made his decision known this morning on the popular morning drive-time radio show The Breakfast Club.
Mingo chose Penn State out of a final list of suitors that also included Georgia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest. Additionally. Mingo also made official visits amidst scholarship offers from Xavier and Notre Dame, the latter helmed by former Penn State hoops head coach Micah Shrewsberry.
The 6-foot-2 combo guard made an official visit to the Penn State campus on September 7th, where coach Mike Rhoades and staff clearly made a strong first impression as the second-year head coach continues to make immediate inroads on the recruiting trail.
What Kayden Mingo’s Commitment Means for Penn State Basketball
Mingo’s commitment automatically vaults Penn State into the Top 25 of 24/7 Sports’ 2025 recruiting class national rankings.
More than that, Mingo automatically becomes the highest-rated recruit in the history of the 24/7 recruiting service. 4-stars with an overall rating of 94, Mingo is the number 43 rated recruit nationally in the 2025 class and is rated 2 points higher than previous PSU record holder, 2016 top recruit Tony Carr.
Mingo joins a 2025 class that also includes 4-star small forward Mason Blackwood and 3-star center Justin Houser and is expected to share the floor with 2024 top 100 national recruit Miles Goodman.
