Penn State head coach Terry Smith reveals update on Chaz Coleman’s status

Following a gut-wrenching three-point loss to No. 2 Indiana, interim Penn State Football head coach Terry Smith was his normal, positive, honest, smiling self.

One notable question today came in regards to Nittany Lions freshman edge rusher Chaz Coleman, who was labeled “OUT” on the pregame availability report against the Hoosiers.

Fortunately for Smith, and Penn State, Coleman isn’t feared to have any sort of significant long-term injury.

“Yeah, Chaz is day-to-day.” Smith said in response to a question about Coleman’s status. “Hoping to have him this week. It’s an injury so we are hoping to get him back this week. He’s a big part of what we’re trying to build here.”

Some Penn State fans began circulating rumors about Coleman’s status following his postgame conversation with an Ohio State usher last week.

I am under the impression that if Chaz Coleman were to transfer, he would not do so midseason. Plus, Terry Smith did indeed confirm it was an injury.

Coleman has played in seven games so far this year. He’s logged seven total tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble.

The Warren, Ohio, native has flashed seemingly all season. Like Smith said, Coleman has a very bright future.

Coleman’s next action will hopefully be Saturday, when Penn State travels to East Lansing. The Nittany Lions will look for their first conference win at 3:30 E.T. on CBS.
