Penn State Football Coaching Search: Betting Markets Differ Wildly on Odds to be Nittany Lions’ Next Head Coach
We are now in week three of Penn State athletic director Pat Kraft’s search to replace James Franklin as the head football coach for the Nittany Lions.
While we may be waiting a while for any hire to be made, betting markets are filling their books with odds for Penn State’s next head coach.
It’s potentially quite early in the search, but the two available sportsbooks differ wildly in the odds to be Penn State’s next head coach. Here are the odds available at each book.
Inside Penn State Football Coaching Search Betting Odds
BetOnline.ag

BetOnline.ag holds odds for eight different head coaching markets, including who will be Penn State’s next head coach and where James Franklin will coach next season.
For Penn State’s replacement for Franklin, BetOnline has Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady (+125) with the highest odds to coach the Nittany Lions next season.
After Brady, Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule is a close second in odds, with +150 odds.
Outside of those two, the only other coach with odds lower than +1200 is Syracuse’s Fran Brown. Notably, Ohio State offensive coordinator Brian Hartline does not appear on the book, and another popular candidate Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz sits at +2000 odds, tied for eighth among listed candidates.
Kalshi.com
Another online betting site, Kalshi, holds odds for only three candidates for Penn State’s opening. First, Kalshi has Nebraska’s Rhule as the top candidate, with a 58 percent chance as of Monday afternoon.
Behind Rhule, Kalshi has Ohio State’s Brian Hartline with a 28 percent chance to be Penn State’s hire (up from 6.2 percent on Saturday). Third, Kalshi has Missouri’s Drinkwitz listed with an 18 percent chance to take over the Penn State job.
Throughout the process, these odds are likely to swing wildly until Pat Kraft zeros in on a few candidates.
Because of the history between Rhule and Kraft, Nebraska’s Matt Rhule will likely remain one of the top candidates on betting sites until the end of the process for Penn State. With Rhule, however, its anyone’s guess who will rise and fall on these odds boards.
