“Everything in His Power” James Franklin Updates Abdul Carter’s Injury Status
Penn State star defensive end and Big Ten defensive player of the year Abdul Carter exited in the first half of the Nittany Lions‘ 31-14 Fiesta Bowl win over Boise State with an undisclosed injury to his left arm.
During the game, no update was provided regarding Carter’s injury.
Carter was seen on the sideline in the second half without his helmet and celebrating with the team after the game, including lifting the Fiesta Bowl trophy with his right arm.
After the game in the post-game press conference, Penn State head coach James Franklin did not provide an update on Abdul Carter, noting “I don’t know a whole lot. We’ll get that checked out and see.”
On Wednesday morning, Penn State head coach James Franklin provided an update on Carter’s injury status on ESPN’s College Gameday show ahead of the New Year’s Day college football playoff games.
“Abdul’s going to do everything in his power to try to get back,” Franklin said during an appearance on College GameDay. “If he’s able to go, I know he’ll go. We’ll get him checked out and make sure everything’s okay. I just saw him walking from breakfast, and he looks great and his attitude is great.
“But, I just don’t have a ton of information for you right now. We’ll get back and get some more information and find out quickly. The little extra time helps, too.”
Carter is considered one of the top prospects in the upcoming 2025 NFL draft.
ESPN NFL draft analyst and insider Matt Miller has Carter ranked as the second overall prospect in the draft. Miller calls Carter, a “special pass-rusher” with a “pro-player comparison that’s All-Pro level.” Carter leads the Big Ten conference with 11 sacks and 22 tackles for a loss this season.
Carter has not yet announced an NFL draft decision, but he is widely expected to declare for the 2025 NFL draft after Penn State’s season is over as one of the top prospects in the next draft.
