Penn State Football Rises in Coaches Poll After Blasting West Virginia

Penn State Football did some damage on Saturday, beating West Virginia 34-12 in Morgantown, and the Nittany Lions looked a lot different than in past years.

The defense was special, like always, but the offense started moving the ball down the field in the air, and quarterback Drew Allar was airing it out all afternoon.

Penn State fans are not used to the ball moving all around the field, but the offense will be explosive under new offesive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki.

While the national media was high on the Nittany Lions after their big-time win, and even ESPN’s Dan Mullen thinks they have passed Oregon and Michigan as the second-best team in the Big Ten, coaches in the sport weren’t too high on the victory.

The after-Week One coach’s Top 25 came out on Tuesday, and Penn State was ranked eighth, one spot higher than in the preseason poll, where they were ranked ninth.

There was little movement from Preason’s Top Ten teams.

Notre Dame was ranked seventh to start the season and then went out the road and beat ranked Texas A&M but didn’t move from the seventh spot.

Oregon fell from three to six after escaping Idaho 24-14, with three SEC schools, Texas, Alabama, and Ole Miss, jumping them.

Penn State will still need to get another big-time win to put the college coaches on notice. On October 12th, they head to Southern California to play USC, which just came off a significant victory against LSU on Sunday night.

The Nittany Lions could plant their flag with all of college football if they can go on the road and get the victory.
