Penn State Football has one of the most iconic uniforms in college football history.
The “Basic Blues” have been a staple at Penn State and largely have remained unchanged in the history of the program. However, ahead of Penn State’s first appearance in the College Football Playoff, Penn State Football is making two additions to the iconic Basic Blues.

On Thursday morning, Penn State released two teasers of the small additions to Penn State’s uniform for the inaugural 12-team playoff matchup against SMU this Saturday.
On the back of Penn State’s iconic white helmet, Penn State will add the college football playoff football logo on the blue stripe, next to the American flag. On Penn State’s classic blue home jerseys, Penn State is adding a “Playoff First Round Presented by Allstate” patch above the Big Ten conference patch.

Both of the changes made to Penn State’s iconic uniforms represent Penn State’s first college football playoff appearance in program history.
If Penn State is able to beat SMU on Saturday, expect more of these subtle changes throughout the playoff as the Fiesta Bowl logo, and any other bowl logos after that would be added to the jerseys as Penn State progresses towards the national championship game.
In addition to the uniform updates, Fanatics and other sites are now selling Penn State college football playoff gear for the first time.
