Drew Allar, Penn State Football

Despite Penn State’s Struggles, CBS Still Sees Drew Allar as a First-Round Pick for Steelers

The 2025 Penn State Football team has struggled to find its footing this season, losing two in a row and dropping from No. 2 to being unranked after five games.

However, the slow start has not lowered quarterback Drew Allar’s draft stock, according to CBS draft analyst Josh Edwards.

In his latest mock draft on Wednesday, Edwards has Allar coming off the board in the first round of next April’s NFL draft to the Pittsburgh Steelers at 14th overall.

“Being a mediocre team outside of early draft range has its disadvantages when the team needs a quarterback,” Edwards notes for CBS Sports.

Why Drew Allar Makes Sense for Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh will need to bring in a quarterback to replace Aaron Rodgers next season, and Edwards believes the Penn State prospect could fit the bill for the Steelers.

Edwards notes that “it worked well the last time [the Steelers] brought in a big body from the state of Ohio” (Roethlisberger).

This season, Allar’s play has slightly dipped from his 2024 career highs. Allar has passed for 963 yards and eight touchdowns in five games, while throwing two interceptions. Allar’s 63.1 career completion percentage is a Penn State record.

How Allar finishes the season for the Nittany Lions will go a long way to determining if he can indeed hear his name called in round one next April.

Allar’s size and arm strength will certainly intrigue teams at the combine and Penn State pro day, but Allar must put enough on film in the Nittany Lions’ remaining games this season if he wants to hear his name this early next year.
