Penn State Football: 3 Things To Know About Transfer WR Commit Kyron Hudson

Hours after Penn State Football received news that starting quarterback Drew Allar would return for a fourth year in Happy Valley, the Nittany Lions picked up a weapon for Allar out of the transfer portal, former USC Trojan Kyron Hudson.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound redshirt junior wide receiver out of Duarte, California has played four years with the Trojans before entering the transfer portal this offseason.

3 Things to Know About New Penn State WR Kyron Hudson

Hudson had zero dropped passes in 2024

Penn State Football is getting a sure-handed wide receiver in Kyron Hudson for Allar and offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki next season.

According to PFF, Hudson did not drop a pass in 2024, catching 38 of his 64 targets but not dropping any of the targets. For the 2024 season, Hudson caught passes from USC’s Miller Moss and Jayden Maiava, neither of which completed over 65 percent of their passes.

Hudson could benefit from Drew Allar, who increased his accuracy between his first and second year as a starting quarterback, raising his completion percentage by around 10 percentage points in 2024 to 69.1 percent.

Out of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, Hudson ranked 126 nationally, the 22nd overall wide receiver in the 2020 class.

Four years later, Hudson ranks 151 overall in the transfer portal, as the 33rd overall wide receiver in the poral. In his initial evaluation out of high school, 247Sports national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins compared Hudson to former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Anquan Boldin, noting that Hudson was “one of the strongest receivers in the country who can bully opposing corners.” Biggins continued that Hudson “has very good hands and does a nice job catching the ball through contact.”

After four years at USC, Hudson’s evaluation seems to fit, with Hudson recording 0 drops this season with USC.

Hudson has highlight reel ability

In the 2024 season, Kyron Hudson caught 38 passes for 462 yards and three touchdowns.

Hudson ranked third on the USC Trojans in receiving yards, averaging 3.2 catches and 38.5 yards per game. In USC’s season opener, Hudson made an incredible one-handed catch against the LSU Tigers, earning recognition for the catch all season.

Later in the season, Hudson caught four passes for 36 yards and a touchdown against Penn State in USC’s 33-30 loss to the Nittany Lions.

With Drew Allar on board for 2025, Penn State will look to make a run in the college football playoff and Big Ten once again after breaking into the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history and returning to Indianapolis for the first time since 2016.

Hudson could be one of the weapons Allar was missing in 2024 to raise the ceiling even higher for the Nittany Lions in 2025.

Penn State will look to add more weapons for Drew Allar this offseason in the transfer portal, but getting Hudson’s commitment early in the transfer portal cycle goes a long way to retool the offense for Drew Allar’s last ride in Happy Valley.
