Penn State Linebacker To Enter Portal
Today, April 16th marks the beginning of the spring transfer portal window for college football. A day that is usually marked by choas and moving pieces as players big and small jump ship on teams, get processed out of others, or just straight up leave for a variety of reasons.
The Nittany Lions have their first transfer portal loss of the spring. Linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson will be entering the portal.
James Franklin brought Robinson in as a class of 2023 signee. The Pittsburgh native, Robinson, was an ON3 Industry four star as a recruit and had promising film. Although Robinson battled a significant knee injury in high school and at Penn State, he was poised to crack the rotation this year. Yesterday safety Dejuan Lane said “[Ta’Mere Robinson] is my mike backer.”
This past season, Robinson appeared in 14 games and made 11 tackles. With most of that production coming from special teams, Robinson was poised to take a step forward this fall.
Robinson, listed as a redshirt sophomore, will have 3 years of elgibility left.

What’s Next For Penn State?
Losing Ta’Mere Robinson is certainly not a good sign for the Nittany Lions. The linebacker room is already thin. Tony Rojas is coming off of an off season surgery, Dakarri Nelson is too. Additionally Keon Wylie is just recently returning to action from a knee injury, leaving Dom DeLuca as the only fully healthy player who has played meaningful snaps for the Nittany Lions. That is definitely a thin room.
I could see Penn State shopping for a Linebacker in the spring portal window.
Even if Penn State doesn’t haul in a star, huge name Linebacker, I would expect them to be in on a quality depth player. That will be an intriguing situation to keep an eye on.
James Franklin Weighs in on Spring Portal Window
The spring portal opens on April 16th and closes on April 26th. Well, that creates a massive problem for the Nittany Lions who conclude spring ball with the Blue-White game on April 26th. After practice, James Franklin spoke to the difficulties of the timing of the spring transfer window.
“I think from my board meetings with the AFCA and what most coaches across the country are speaking on, I want to be careful not speaking for all coaches, but I think a good majority of them would like one window. I think that’s in everybody’s best interest,” Said Franklin. “The players know who’s on the roster. The coaches know who’s on the roster. Even if you made it after spring ball and then even maybe got rid of spring football, and went to like a summer OTAs or did it then, I think there needs to be one window.”
“Right now, there’s no rules. You could have 50 guys go in the portal at this time of year, and it’s a problem. There’s also protection already for if there’s a coaching change and things like that that we’ve seen. Right now, there’s just no rules, and I don’t really think it’s in anybody’s best interest.” Franklin said.
