Penn State Football Game Balls, MVP From 35-6 Blowout Over Washington

Penn State Football, Tyler Warren

Penn State Football throttled Washington to get back on the winning side of things, with a 35-6 victory in the Nittany Lions‘ annual whiteout.

It was pretty clear from kickoff until the end that the Nittany Lions were the superior team, with Penn State jumping out to a 28-0 first half lead and eventually winning by 29.

While plenty of players contributed to the win for the Nittany Lions, here are your NittanyCentral game balls and MVP for the performance Saturday night.

Game ball offense: Drew Allar

Drew Allar was efficient and effective for the Nittany Lions in one of his more complete performances in a Penn State uniform.

Allar was 20 for 28 passing for 220 yards and a touchdown in Penn State’s 35-6 win over Washington Saturday. Allar showed off both his accuracy throwing the ball down the field and his mobility in avoiding the pass rush Saturday in Penn State’s win.

Thanks in large part to a few scrambles evading sacks, Washington’s defense did not record a sack or a tackle for a loss against the Nittany Lions. Allar gets the offensive game ball against Washington for his complete performance leading the offense to a much improved 35 point performance after being held out of the endzone against Ohio State.

Game ball defense: Abdul Carter

Abdul Carter was unblockable against Washington Saturday night, despite Washington using two offensive lineman to block Carter for a good portion of the night.

Carter recorded six tackles, four tackles for a loss, two sacks, and a forced fumble in his most dominant showing since moving to defensive end. Carter looked like the best player on the field every time Penn State’s defense stepped on the field Saturday night and is playing his way to earning his spot on most first-round mock drafts for next year’s NFL draft.

MVP: Tyler Warren

Tyler Warren once again was one of the best players on the field Saturday night.

The versatile tight end caught eight passes for 75 yards, rushed three times for seven yards and two touchdowns, and played both quarterback and wildcat quarterback in the 35-6 win for Penn State. Warren took two snaps at the wildcat inside the five-yard line this week and both resulted in a rushing touchdown for Penn State.

Warren continues to make his case for both the Mackey Award (top tight end) and the Hornung Award (most versatile player). After the game, Penn State head coach James Franklin said as much, stating “I don’t see how this guy doesn’t win the Mackey Award and the Paul Hornung Award” after another dazzling performance by Warren.

Honorable mention: Corey Smith

It didn’t fit anywhere else on this list, but true freshman running back Corey Smith deserved a shoutout after his first action as a Nittany Lion Saturday. Smith was elevated to RB3 for Penn State to potentially preserve fellow freshman Quinton Martin’s redshirt, who already has played in three games this season.

With Nick Singleton sidelined in the third quarter, Corey Smith saw his first game action for the Nittany Lions in the fourth quarter of Penn State’s win over Washington. Smith took his first carry eight yards for a first down on Penn State’s final touchdown drive of the day. On the next drive, however, Smith earned his flowers, taking a handoff 78 yards, the longest rush for the Nittany Lions this season. In his debut, Smith carried the ball four times for 95 yards, finishing three yards behind Kaytron Allen for the team lead in rushing yards.
