Penn State Record Watch: Where Do Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen Sit on All-Time Lists After 3 Games?

After spending all three years at Penn State sharing the backfield, Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen entered the 2025 season both within reach of Penn State Football’s all-time rushing records.

The Nittany Lions‘ all-time rushing record was set by Evan Royster in 2010 with 3,932 career rushing yards.

Royster broke Curt Warner’s record of 3,398 yards set in 1982. Entering the 2025 season, Singleton stood just 1,021 yards away from Royster’s record. Allen on the other hand stood just 1,055 yards away. Singleton also entered the 2025 season ranked fifth all-time in career rushing touchdowns, 12 shy of Saquon Barkley’s all-time record of 43.

Three games into the 2025 season, here is where Singleton and Allen stand on their quests to break those records.

All-time Rushing Yards Record

Through the first three games of the 2025 season, Kaytron Allen has proved to be the more consistent back for the Nittany Lions, rushing for eight yards per carry on 34 attempts this season. Allen’s 273 rushing yards on the season have moved him up from 11th all-time to 8th after three games.

With at least nine games remaining in Allen’s final collegiate season, Allen needs 783 yards to pass Royster and set Penn State’s all-time record.

Singleton on the other hand has more carries than Allen this season but is only rushing for 4.4 yards per carry thus far in 2025. Singleton’s 179 rushing yards on the season moves him up to ninth on Penn State’s all-time list. With at least nine games remaining in the 2025 season, Singleton needs 842 yards to pass Royster.

With Allen and Singleton traditionally splitting carries relatively evenly over their three-plus-year Penn State careers, both will have the opportunity to push for Penn State’s all-time record.

Depending on which back is more effective down the stretch could determine which, if either, sits atop the Penn State record book when the dust settles on the 2025 season.

Penn State All-time Rushing Touchdown Record

Despite the relatively slow start for Nick Singleton to the 2025 season, Singleton has still made great progress toward the all-time rushing touchdown record through three games.

While Singleton is only averaging 4.4 yards per carry so far in 2025, Singleton has taken advantage of short-yardage carries in the redzone to punch in five rushing touchdowns through three games for the Nittany Lions.

Singleton now sits third all-time behind Barkley and Lydell Mitchell on Penn State’s all-time record list. Singleton’s 37 all-time rushing touchdowns put him six behind Saquon’s record 43, well within reach of Singleton over the rest of the 2025 season.

While the opposing defenses will only be stronger for the rest of the season, Singleton will still have plenty of opportunities to reach the endzone another seven times to set Penn State’s all-time record.

If Penn State wants to reach the Nittany Lions’ ultimate goal of a national championship this season, the offense will need to lean on both Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton down the stretch.

Allen and Singleton will both have plenty of opportunity to prove that they are the two best backs in Penn State history and etch their names in the Penn State history books forever.
