Could Penn State Fill it’s 2027 WR Class With Pennsylvania Talent?
As we continue to go forward with this series looking at 2027 Penn State Football recruiting, our focus zeros in to the Wide Receivers today.
In case you missed it I wrote about the Nittany Lions and their prospects at Running Back in the 2027 class yesterday.
Khalil Taylor, Already Pledged to be a Nittany Lion
Penn State’s class of 2027 already holds 3 commitments. All 3 of those commitments are on the offensive side of the ball. Additionally, all three are blue chip prospects. Wide Receiver Khalil Taylor is no exception to that.
Rated as an ON3 Industry 4-star, Taylor is a top 10 wideout in his class. The Seton LaSalle (Pittsburgh) player has an almost eight minute “Touchdown Tape” from his sophomore year. The kid is an elite Wide Receiver talent. Khalil Taylor has a speed, shiftiness, and a fluidity to his game that is rare to see in a prep prospect. Marques Hagans is getting a good one in Taylor.
Back when Khalil Taylor committed to Penn State, he told me he knows other schools would come calling. However, he was confident that Happy Valley was the place for him. While other schools may indeed begin reaching out to Taylor, he seems content with Penn State right now.

Could Penn State Fill it’s 2027 WR Class Using In-State Talent?
Will the Nittany Lions even have to leave the state to get wideouts in 2027? While that question seems like a wild one to think about, there is a path for it to happen for Penn State Football. Pennsylvania is loaded with elite Wide Receiver talent in 2027.
In addition to Khalil Taylor, there are several other names to circle from within the state. Among those names is Pottstown, Pa native, Matthew Gregory. Rated as an ON3 Industry 4 star, Matthew Gregory is a recruit who could blow up even bigger. Gregory has elite speed. That is what makes him such a coveted prospect. He holds offers from almost every regional school and I would anticipate that offer sheet to keep growing. Penn State would love to land Gregory.
Another in-state kid is Carter Bonner. Playing his high school ball in Pittsburgh, he is familiar with Penn State. Bonner holds offers from a good amount of power four schools, including Penn State. Besides Gregory and Taylor, I am unsure of where everyone else falls on the 2027 Wide Receiver board. However, Penn State is involved with Bonner.
An interesting prospect is Malvern Prep’s Cade Cooper. To this point, Cooper has yet to be offered by the Nittany Lions. However, I have asked around and I would expect him to be offered at some point in the cycle. Cooper likely needs more film, but once he gets that, he could be one to watch for Penn State.
So, could Penn State really fill the 2027 Wide Receiver class with Pennsylvania talent? Yes, they absolutely could. But let’s face it, things rarely work out as you would expect in recruiting. So, in a dream world, Penn State Football wouldn’t have to leave the state. But, we all know, recruiting world is anything but a dream world.

Which Out of State Prospects are on Penn State’s Radar?
With that much in-state talent in 2027, that seems like it should bode well for Penn State. But even outside the state, within Penn State’s recruiting footprint, there are some really good names to monitor.
In my opinion, Maryland native Myles McAfee might be one of the best receivers in the nation in the class of 2027. McAfee balled out at the OT7 7 on 7 Playoffs in late June and he has the makings of an elite prospect. Marques Hagans and Penn State are involved with him and he could be a massive target by this time next year.
Some other out of state, in region Wide Receiver prospects are Iveon Lewis, Quentin Burrell, Dakota Guerrant, Anthony Roberts, Bryan Porter, and Isaiah Alvarez. I don’t mean to brush by all of these prospects, but I just don’t have a good feel for where they are on Penn State’s end. I do know this though, Penn State is in the mix with all of them. It’s just one of those things that will sort out over time.
