Penn State Football Stock Report: Tyler Warren, Abdul Carter Dominate

Penn State Football got from Kent State exactly what the coaching staff wanted two weeks earlier against Bowling Green.

The Nittany Lions were massive favorites in both, but handled Kent State, 56-0, on Saturday and got playing time for a long list of young players who didn’t in tight previous wins over West Virginia (34-12) and Bowling Green (34-27).

Kent State or not, Tyler Warren went full Superman with a highlight reel one-handed catch, a passing TD and receiving TD. Coach James Franklin verbiage for Warren also graduated from “The most complete tight end in the country” to “best tight end in the country.” Maybe because he’s both and Franklin wants to make sure he’s recognized for it.

WR Omari Evans

Yes, it’s true that Evans’ 59-yard touchdown catch was a superhuman sprint through the park for him with almost zero attention paid by the Kent State defense.

But, it’s also true that his deep connection with Drew Allar is real, so long as Allar continues to have time to sit in the pocket and wait for Evans to get over the top of the defense. That proposition is about to get a little dicier, beginning with Illinois this weekend.

DE Abdul Carter

Not that he would have necessarily been pressing for his first sack of the season, but it was good for Carter to check that box against Kent State. Plenty more should flow from here.
