Nick Singleton, Kaytron Allen Chasing History in 2025 Penn State Football Return

Star running backs Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen both announced their returns to Penn State for their fourth seasons on campus Monday within minutes of each other.

Both coming from the same star-studded class of 2022, the dynamic duo has essentially split carries and starts for the past three seasons in Happy Valley.

Working as a dynamic duo over the past 43 games for Penn State (Singleton missed one game due to injury in 2024), Singleton and Allen have taken Penn State’s running game to new heights since arriving on campus.

Now back for a fourth season, the duo can help Penn State to new heights as a team, but also both backs have the opportunity to break all-time records for Penn State in their final seasons on campus.

Nick Singleton

Playing in 41 career games for Penn State over the past three seasons, former five-star running back Nick Singleton has racked up 2,912 career rushing yards and 32 career rushing touchdowns in Happy Valley.

The 2024 season was his most successful in blue and white, with 1,099 rushing yards, 12 rushing touchdowns, 375 receiving yards, and five receiving touchdowns over 15 games. In 2024, Singleton eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark for the second time in his Penn State career, the other being his 2022 freshman campaign.

Ahead of coming back for a final season at Penn State in 2025, Singleton ranks 10th all-time at Penn State in rushing yards. Singleton also ranks fifth all-time with 32 rushing touchdowns in his three-year career.

Kaytron Allen eclipsed the 1,000 mark for the first time in his Penn State career in 2024, recording 1,108 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns in 2024.

In his three-year career, Allen has produced 2,877 rushing yards, 24 rushing touchdowns, 422 receiving yards, and four receiving touchdowns over 42 career games. Allen ranks 11th all-time at Penn State, 35 yards behind Singleton on the all-time list.

All-Time Penn State Records in Danger

Penn State’s all-time rushing record was set by Evan Royster in 2010 with 3,932 career rushing yards. Royster broke Curt Warner’s record of 3,398 yards set in 1982. Ahead of the 2025 season, both Singleton and Allen are within reach of this longstanding record for the Nittany Lions.

Singleton stands just 1,021 yards away from breaking Royster’s record. Allen on the other hand sits 1,055 yards away from it. With both backs eclipsing those marks in 2024, both Singleton and Allen will be on record breaking watch next season as they chase history for the Nittany Lions.

With both backs separated by just 35 career yards, depending on which back has the better season, or which back can stay healthy for the entire 2025 campaign, either back could find themselves writing their name at the top of Penn State’s record book when the dust settles in 2025.

Nick Singleton also finds himself within reach of a second all-time record for Penn State.

With a full season to go in Happy Valley, Singleton’s 32 career rushing touchdowns rank fifth all-time among Nittany Lions. Singleton is 12 rushing touchdowns shy of breaking Saquon Barkley’s all-time record of 43 rushing touchdowns set in 2017. Importantly for Singleton, he has hit the mark of 12 rushing touchdowns in two of his three seasons on campus in 2022 and 2024. If Singleton is able to match that number again in 2025, Singleton could find himself in possession of two all-time Penn State records before he leaves Happy Valley.

While breaking Penn State individual records may not be at the top of the priority list for either back heading into next season, as both backs aspire for a larger team goal in 2025, either or both backs could make history for Penn State along the way.

Once the dust settles on the 2025 season, Penn State could have not one but two new names at the top of Penn State’s record book for rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.
