What’s Next for Penn State Football Recruiting at Linebacker After Torrid Stretch

Penn State Football Recruiting picked up another significant commit on Wednesday with 4-star linebacker Dayshaun Burnett joining the class.

Burnett is the tenth member of the 2025 class, but he is also the third linebacker commit, which is a notable fact. After taking just two linebackers in the 2024 class, there is some flexibility for the Nittany Lions to take a large haul in 2025, but just how much bigger are we talking?

The likely number is just one more, but that could eventually go to two if the staff considers Burnett an edge player, which could be a possibility down the road.

With that said, here are the options for defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Tom Allen to consider.

Penn State Football Top Remaining LB Targets

1. Anthony Sacca

The son of former Penn State quarterback Tony Sacca, Anthony Sacca is now making a name for himself as well.

The 4-star is one of the most coveted uncommitted recruits in Pennsylvania in the 2025 class. Rated as a 4-star, Sacca comes in at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds.

Sacca has an impressive offer list that includes Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

Sacca doesn’t attend a school that’s necessarily been kind to Penn State Football, as he goes to St. Joe’s Prep in Philadelphia, but the Nittany Lions do have a long history with the family on their side.

2. Cameron Smith

Another top target is actually Sacca’s teammate, Camerom Smith.

Smith is a little smaller than Sacca, listed at 6-foot and 200 pounds, but he is an impressive athlete that should profile well at outside linebacker. Smith is rated as a 4-star and the No. 4 player in Pennsylvania, just ahead of Sacca. He originally played at Salem in New Jersey, but is making the move to St. Joe’s.

His other notable offers are Michigan and Texas A&M.

It’s very possible that two high school teammates will be battling it out for the last linebacker spot in Penn State’s class.

3. Kamar Archie

Moving a little bit to the northeast, we find the third option for the Nittany Lions, in Trenton, New Jersey’s Kamar Archie.

Listed at 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds, Archie is listed as the No. 25 linebacker in the 2025 class. His extensive offer list includes Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC and Texas A&M.

Archie was originally a member of the 2024 class, but reclassified to 2025. He was last at Penn State in January for a Junior Day Visit.

There’s a lot of big names involved in this one, so this could be the toughest pull of the three.
