Newly Offered 2028 Prospect, Cartae Ligon Goes in Depth on Penn State Offer

Even though Penn State Football is still amidst a coaching search, the work on the recruiting trail must go on.

Tuesday, the Nittany Lions offered class of 2028 Running Back, Cartae Ligon. Ligon holds offers from Indiana, UNC, Miami, and others.

NittanyCentral caught up with Ligon to discuss his Penn State offer.

“It was very exciting.” Ligon said. “Especially knowing they’re usually a top team in the Big Ten, it’s very exciting.”

Penn State Football Shows Hospitality

Despite Penn State’s struggles on the field, interim head coach Terry Smith was a pivotal figure in the Nittany Lions’ pursuit of Ligon.

“After my class I was on call with Darren (Cartae’s agent) and Coach Smith.” Ligon tells NittanyCentral. Ligon continued on to describe Terry Smith. “He’s a very genuine guy and I’m excited to get to know more about the program and Coach Smith.”

“When I was talking to the coach today he said I’m welcome on campus anytime I want. I’m shooting to go up there this winter. If I can’t go this winter, I’ll probably try to go early spring”

The Chillicothe Ohio star noted that he is hearing from schools like Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State in addition to the schools that have offered him. Penn State is looking to get ahead of the competition for the 2028 standout.

Ligon Dominates Ohio Football

Cartae Ligon helped lead Chillicothe to a bounce back 6-5 season. He plays Safety and Running Back. Over the season he racked up 2,580 all purpose yards, 27 Touchdowns, 70 Tackles, and 3 Interceptions.

Ligon described his game this way.

“I’m a pretty elusive back,” Ligon said, offering a glimpse of what he brings to the table. “I can beat dudes on the outside. I can mix it up with a little bit of power too… Run up the middle, run a guy over, just run for a Touchdown… I can also play Safety on defense [and] lockup their best receiver.”

Ligon’s offer sheet, productivity, and talent make him a can’t miss prospect in the class of 2028 for the Nittany Lions. Penn State will prioritize Ligon.
