Penn State Football Recruiting: 3 Top Commits Soar in Latest 247 Rankings

Penn State Football’s 2025 class is close to complete with 25 commitments after this week’s addition of safety Josh Johnson.

At 25 commitments, Penn State’s 2025 class ranks 14th nationally and fourth in the Big Ten.

On Wednesday, 247Sports released an updated ranking of the site’s Top247 prospects. Here are how three Penn State commits in the 2025 class rose in the rankings:

Defensive end Jayden Woods

Four-star defensive end prospect Jayden Woods out of Kansas rose in 247Sports Top247 ranking to number 75 overall and the number seven edge prospect in the 2025 class. Woods was previously ranked as the number 172 overall recruit in the class and has been committed to the Nittany Lions since June. Woods is the highest rated prospect in Penn State’s 2025 class.


Offensive Lineman Malachi Goodman

Four-star offensive lineman Malachi Goodman out of Paramus Catholic in New Jersey rose in the new release of the Top247 to number 86 overall and the number four interior offensive lineman in the class.

Goodman ranks as the second highest-rated prospect in the state of New Jersey in the 2025 class. Goodman has been committed to the Nittany Lions since September and is the highest-rated offensive prospect in Penn State’s 2025 class.


Linebacker Lavar Arrington II

Four-star legacy linebacker Lavar Arrington II made the most substantial rise in the latest release of 247Sports Top247, moving from unranked to the number 127 prospect overall in the 2025 class. Arrington II is the number nine rated linebacker and the number 11 overall recruit in the state of California in the 2025 class according to 247Sports. Arrington has been committed to the Nittany Lions since July and is now the fourth highest-rated player in Penn State’s 2025 class.

Two Penn State prospects did drop in the latest rankings, wide receiver Matthew Outten dropped from 140 to 173 overall and linebacker Cam Smith dropped from 168 to 196 overall. Overall, six Penn State commits are rated in the latest Top247, Woods, Goodman, Arrington II, Outten, Smith, and cornerback Daryus Dixson (rated 113 overall).
