After officially beginning his era as the Penn State Football head coach Monday, Matt Campbell is wasting no time putting together his staff and working on roster retention ahead of the 2026 season.
While the Nittany Lions are still working toward a final game in the 2025 season under interim head coach Terry Smith, Penn State has started to release information on Campbell‘s staff for next season.
On Thursday, Penn State updated the Penn State directory to include three new staff members from Campbell’s Iowa State staff, including an offensive coordinator for next season.
Here are the three names updated Thursday, as first reported by Greg Pickel of Blue and White Illustrated.
Matt Campbell’s Core Trio: OC, OL, and DB Coaches Confirmed
Offensive Coordinator Taylor Mouser: The Longtime Partnership

Taylor Mouser was listed in the Penn State directory Thursday under the title offensive coordinator, the same position he held on Campbell’s staff at Iowa State for the past two seasons.
Mouser has worked under Campbell since his time at Toledo in 2016, working his way up from a graduate assistant to a position coach and eventually to offensive coordinator.
At Iowa State, Mouser also coached tight ends, however, it is unclear if he will carry the same positional responsibility at Penn State at this time. In 2025 under Mouser, Iowa State ranked 62nd in total offense, 67st in offensive yards per game, and 73th in scoring offense with 27.4 points per game.
Offensive Line Coach Ryan Clanton: Run Game Specialist
Penn State’s directory also included Ryan Clanton under the title offensive line coach, the same position he held at Iowa State under Matt Campbell.
Clanton spent the last three seasons as Iowa State’s offensive line coach after joining Campbell’s staff from the University of Northern Iowa, where he served as the offensive line coach and offensive coordinator for five seasons.
In addition to his duties as offensive line coach for the Cyclones, Clanton also served as the run game coordinator.
Defensive Backs Coach Deon Broomfield: Iowa State Letterman Returns

Deon Broomfield spent five seasons as the safeties coach under Matt Campbell at Iowa State before following him to State College.
Broomfield was an Iowa State letterman who returned to Ames to join Campbell’s staff and has nine seasons of experience at the college level coaching defensive backs. Broomfield was also the defensive pass game coordinator for the Cyclones since 2023.
Matt Campbell’s staff will continue to evolve in the coming days as Campbell sorts out which coaches he will retain from Penn State and who else he will potentially bring from Iowa State.
Terry Smith was already announced as being retained by Campbell, however, his title has not yet been announced for next season.
