Penn State Wrestling: Mitchell Mesenbrink is NCAA Champion at 165 Pounds!!
Penn State Wrestling picked up exactly where it left off in Session V of the 2025 NCAA Championships as Mitchell Mesenbrink is taking home an NCAA title.
Mesenbrink has just about the most perfect nickname in all of collegiate wrestling. Dubbed “Psycho” by the Nittany Lion faithful, he truly lives up to that moniker.
Mitchell has absolutely ravaged the 165 bracket in winning a decision, a major decision, and two technical falls in his run to the finals. And his non-stop energy was on full display the entire tournament for the Nittany Lions.
Well, now you can add two more words to his name: Mitchell “Psycho” Mesenbrink: NCAA Champion

Mesenbrink’s 8-2 win over Iowa’s Mike Caliendo caps an incredible season. Mitchell put together a 27-0 record while winning his second Big Ten title for Penn State Wrestling.
The standout sophomore came oh so close to winning his first title last year. But look, there’s no shame in losing to David Carr. Especially when it came down to the wire.
Anyway, that’s all history now. Because Mitchell Mesenbrink has climbed to the top.
And all I know is that he’s a special talent who wrestles with an energy not seen on an everyday basis. He has the ability to take down any opponent that stands before him and he’s got the will power to do it countless times.
Just as with guys like Luke Lilledahl, Tyler Kasak, and Josh Barr, Mesenbrink’s future looks amazing. Based on what the Penn State fans have seen from him already, it’s going to be really hard to predict the heights that Mitchell Mesenbrink will reach one day.
