Penn State Wrestling: Nittany Lions land the No. 1 recruit in the nation

Penn State Wrestling just received a commitment from the overall No. 1 recruit in the nation Wednesday morning.

As crazy as it is to say, the Nittany Lions‘ dominant wrestling machine is getting stronger by the day.

Overall No. 1 recruit in the 2025 class, Marcus Blaze, narrowed his focus down to three school recently. These were Ohio State, Purdue, and Penn State. And at 7:30am this morning, Blaze announced he would be joining Cael Sanderson and the rest of the Nittany Lion crew.

Marcus’ commitment now gives Penn State the No. 1 (Marcus Blaze), No. 2 (PJ Duke), No. 15 (William Henckel), No. 18 (Asher Cunningham), No. 32 (Nathan Desmond), and No. 41 (Dalton Perry) recruits on FloWrestling’s latest 2025 Big Board.

Out of Perrysburg High School in Ohio, Blaze is a three-time Ohio state champion, placed twice at Super 32, and won last year’s Ironman.

Additionally, Marcus shocked the nation when he competed in the 2023 Clarion Open, as only a junior in high school, and took down the 2023 NCAA runner-up at 125 pounds, Matt Ramos. Blaze went on to finish second overall in the tournament.

And his presence on the national and world stage is just as impressive.

Marcus won gold at the World U17’s last year and finished runner-up this year at the World U20’s. Furthermore, Blaze placed third at this past year’s Olympic Trials at 57 kg and second at the World Team Trials while competing at 61 kg.

Based on his frame and size, Blaze’s most likely spot on a college roster will settle around 133 or 141 pounds. Which fits in perfectly to Penn State’s room as Beau Bartlett is a senior and Shayne Van Ness is entering his junior season.
