Penn State Wrestling vs. Michigan State: Nittany Lions blank Sparty 55-0 | FULL RESULTS
Penn State Wrestling kicked off the 2025 B1G regular season with a resounding smackdown of Michigan State 55-0.
The Nittany Lion faithful filled Rec Hall Friday evening as they eagerly awaited Penn State’s first dual meet since the National Collegiate Duals back in December.
And it’s safe to say the Nittany Lions squad gave the home crowd exactly what they came for. Which was an utter domination of the Spartans.
On a side note, if you’re a casual Penn State sports fan and you’ve somehow stumbled upon this article, I would strongly suggest you follow the wrestling team. Even if you don’t know much about wrestling, just tune in and watch some of their duals. Thankfully the rest of the season will be aired nationally on the B1G Network, so it won’t be a big lift to watch.
Because if you’re still stinging from Penn State Football’s loss last night in the Orange Bowl, then I promise you that won’t happen when you watch wrestling. The program that Cael Sanderson has built here in Happy Valley is the definition of “unrivaled”. And they sure do a lot of winning along the way.
Now onto the wrestling!

Penn State Wrestling vs. Michigan State FULL RESULTS
Look, is this year’s version of Michigan State Wrestling a good team?
Not at all. At least by B1G standards.
But Penn State Wrestling did what they always do regardless of the opponent. And that was to give 110% in each of the matches.
They rarely wrestle down to their competition and the results spoke for themselves tonight.
About the only item to note was that the dual meet started out at 285, instead of the customary start at 125.
285-149
And Greg Kerkvliet kicked off the night in prime time fashion by pinning his guy inside of the first minute.
Luke Lilledahl and Braeden Davis continued the onslaught by each piling up technical falls. From that point on, Penn State was off to the races.
About the only competitive match of the night was when Beau Bartlett and Jaden Cumpler were tied 0-0 going into the second period. However that still ended up with Bartlett on the winning side of a 12-3 major decision.
Shayne Van Ness then got the home crowd to their feet as he hit on his second takedown and worked it into Penn State Wrestling’s second fall of the first half.
Going into the intermission, the Nittany Lions led Michigan State 26-0.
157-197
Tyler Kasak and Mitchell Mesenbrink kept their foot firmly on the pedal in the next two matches. Kasak picked up Penn State Wrestling’s third pin and Mesenbrink piled on his ninth straight technical fall of the year.
Levi Haines make quick work of his opponent with a second period fall and Carter Starocci kept the score keeper busy with Penn State’s fifth pin of the dual.
Josh Barr then capped off the night with Penn State’s sixth fall of the night!
Wow.
