Prediction for Penn State Wrestling vs Oklahoma

Penn State Wrestling, Luke Lilledahl
Penn State Wrestling’s Luke Lilledahl, top, wrestles Iowa’s Joey Cruz in the 125-pound bout on January 31, 2025, in State College, Pa. Lilledahl won by tech fall 22-6 at 6:43.

For the first dual meet of the season, both lineups appear fairly well set. Which is rare.

But Cael Sanderson answered some key roster questions earlier in the week. Namely, he indicated Masanosuke Ono, Braeden Davis, and Tyler Kasak were going to take a redshirt. Therefore, shutting down several preseason questions.

However, the Penn State Wrestling fans could still see a possible shakeup at 197 and 285. With Josh Barr suffering a potential rib injury in the U23 World Championships, it makes sense for him to rest a bit.

Additionally, I don’t fully believe the starting spot at heavyweight has been solidified yet. At least not for this year.

So with that, it’s time to slap on my prognostication cap.

125 – No. 3 Luke Lilledahl (PSU) tech. fall over No. 29 Beric Jordan (OKLA)
133 – No. 10 Marcus Blaze (PSU) fall over Kaden Smith (OKLA)
141 – No. 11 Aaron Nagao (PSU) major dec. over Alex Braun (OKLA)
149 – No. 1 Shayne Van Ness (PSU) major dec. over No. 11 Jack Gioffre (OKLA)
157 – No. 2 PJ Duke (PSU) dec. over No. 7 Rafael Hipolito (OKLA)
165 – No. 1 Mitchell Mesenbrink (PSU) tech. fall over No. 17 Peyten Kellar (OKLA)
174 – No. 1 Levi Haines (PSU) fall over No. 33 Carter Schubert (OKLA)
184 – No. 2 Rocco Welsh (PSU) dec. over No. 13 Brian Soldano (OKLA)
197 – No. 8 DJ Parker (OKLA) dec. over Connor Mirasola (PSU)
285 – No. 11 Cole Mirasola (PSU) dec. over No. 24 Juan Mora (OKLA)
