Saquon Barkley

NFL Executive high on Saquon Barkley’s MVP Chances

Saquon Barkley has taken the NFL by storm this season and is right in the mix of the MVP race.

The latest showcase evidence came against the Baltimore Ravens’ 2nd ranked rush defense. Barkley gashed the Ravens with 107 yards and a touchdown.

Executives, coaches, and fans across the NFL have taken notice of the former Penn State All-American’s breakout campaign in his first season with the Eagles.

NFL insider, Matt Lombardo, spoke with an anonymous AFC scouting director about Saquon’s chances at winning the MVP award after the Eagles’ 24-19 win over the Ravens that saw Barkley run for 107 yards and the game-winning touchdown.

“Saquon should win it,” The scouting director said. “He changed that offense and that team. He’s been dominant all season.”

In recent years, the Eagles’ running backs have been good but not great, with their best season from a running back coming from Saquon’s fellow Penn State alum, Miles Sanders.

In 2022, Sanders had just over 1200 rushing yards, but Sanders’ biggest weakness was his pass catching ability. He frequently dropped passes and seemed to regress a bit more in that area each year. While Sanders was good, and so was D’Andre Swift, they were more a product of the offense and offensive line.

Penn State Football

Once the Eagles signed Saquon Barkley, they had to learn how to adapt the offense to a star running back. Since they’ve figured that out, they’ve been unstoppable, winning eight straight. In that time, Barkley has backward-hurdled his way into first place in rushing yards and attempts. Despite the talent at QB, TE, WR, and everywhere else on the Eagles roster, the team goes as Saquon goes.

Penn State fans everywhere should be rooting for Saquon Barkley and the Eagles to continue their monster season. It’s about time for a Penn State alum to be awarded the NFL MVP award.
