The Penn State Hockey to the NHL pipeline continues.
Former Penn State Hockey forward Brett Murray has just signed a contract with the Buffalo Sabres.
Murray put pen to paper on a one-way deal worth $750,000, after the former Nittany Lions standout was chosen in the fourth-round of the 2016 NHL Draft.
The 99th overall pick in the 2016 draft, Murray Originally hails from Bolton, Ontario, his allegiance quickly switched from the Maple Leafs to the team that made his dreams come true.
Murray’s path to finally signing a pro deal started out with the Youngstown Phantoms (USHL) where he scored seven goals in twenty-three games. His 6-foot-5 and 227-pound frame transitioned well into the USHL, where he put up 96 points (48 goals, 48 assists) in 89 games played.

During Murray’s time in the NCAA ranks, he put up seven points in 33 games played.
As a member of the AHL’s Rochester Americans, Murray put up respectable numbers, scoring nine goals with 15 assists in 55 games played during the 2020-2021 campaign.
Murray has been called up and down since, scoring his first NHL goal on November 30th, 2021. It was certainly a special night for the young man, as it happened during Hockey Fights Cancer night. Murray’s girlfriend since high school is a survivor of childhood ovarian cancer. His grandfather, Bob Henry after seeing Murray receive his first ever hockey jersey Christmas morning, passed away from cancer.
In 21 NHL starts, Murray now has six total points.
Murray will also be reunited with former Nittany Lions teammate Brando Biro.
As development camps begin, the Penn state Hockey faithful from happy valley would love to see Murray start to use his size and tally up some goals for the Buffalo Sabres organization.
