STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Penn State Basketball beat the Iowa Hawkeyes by a final of 89-79  on Wednesday to get back to .500 in big ten play and win their third consecutive game. Let’s talk about how they got there.

Here are three key takeaways from the Nittany Lions‘ victory over the Hawkeyes.

Iowa entered the game No. 1 in the conference in free throw percentage. Penn State had to limit the Hawkeyes’ trips to the line to give themselves the best chance in this game.

The Hawkeyes only went to the line four times in the first half to Penn State’s 14. For the game, Penn State Basketball won the free throw discrepancy 31-10, making 25.

Success from beyond

Penn State Basketball carried forward their hot shooting from the perimeter that they showed against the Hoosiers last week, going an astounding 12-23 from beyond the arc. Iowa does not make much of their hay from deep and were only 4-15 from 3 on the night.

“We had the right guys shooting the right 3’s today,” Penn State head coach Mike Rhoades said post game. “Guys were very unselfish passing the ball.”

Penn State Basketball had contributions from multiple players on the night and at one point PSU had a 11-0 advantage in bench points.

Overall, four Penn State players finished with double-digit scoring. Baldwin led all Penn State scorers with 20. Postgame, Ace said there has been an emphasis on “sharing the ball … make sure everybody gets a shot.”
