Penn State Wrestling is once again NCAA Champions.
And there you have it. With Mitchell Mesenbrinks 17-9 major decision in Session IV of Friday night’s wrestling action, the Penn State Wresting team has captured their 11th NCAA Team Championship in the past 13 NCAA Tournaments.
Following the action in Session III of the 2024 NCAA Wrestling Championships, Penn State advanced six grapplers to their respective semifinals matches and they jumped out to a 36 point lead over second place Michigan (86.5 to 50.5). With the advancement points growing larger in the later rounds, and with the Nittany Lions already advancing (wrestlers) to their finals, Penn State’s lead was simply insurmountable.
The Nittany Lions cap off their dominant 2023-2024 season by going a perfect 12-0 in dual meets. They also took home their second straight Big Ten Wrestling Championship and Mitchell Mesenbrink won Big Ten Freshman of the Year. And keeping the hardware flowing, Aaron Brooks won Big Ten Wrestler of the Year, Cael Sanderson won Big Ten Coach of the Year, and the Penn State Wrestling Team now hoists the team trophy yet again.

Cael Sanderson’s Penn State wrestling Dynasty Continues
It doesn’t appear the dominant winning-machine Sanderson has built at Penn State is slowing down anytime soon. Because with the talent he has returning, the high level of recruits who continue to come to University Park, and the ability of the entire Nittany Lion coaching staff to train and get these young men ready to win on the mat, all signs point to another 10 years of incredible success to come.
There will be several teams who have they eyes set on trying to topple the mighty Nittany Lions. But for teams like Nebraska, Cornell, Iowa, NC State, and Ohio State, they are going to have to do a whole lot more to reach the precipice Cael Sanderson and the Nittany Lions have achieved in the last decade plus.
But for now, enjoy the rest of the wrestling action, Penn State fans!
