Penn State Football Freshman OL No Longer With Program

Penn State Football, James Franklin

Maleek McNeil is no longer a member of the Penn State Football program.

Penn State Football confirmed his absence just Monday morning, as he does not appear on the online roster anymore.

It’s unclear whether McNeil will enter the transfer portal after the season, attempting to continue his football career elsewhere. McNeil was a consensus 3- star recruit from Cortland Manor, NY. He played at Walter Panas High where he was not just an offensive lineman, but a punter too.

McNeil Arrived Last Summer

McNeil is a 6-foot-7 336-pound recruit, hoping he could bulk up, transferring to a sturdy lineman.

“He was a great player for us in all three phases of the game,” Walter Panas High coach, Bill Castro said of McNeil, when he signed with the Nittany Lions. “He dominated on both the offense and defensive line and was also an X-factor on special teams as our punter as well as producing four blocked kicks”.

Three OL Left in the 2022 Class

The departure of McNeil means the Lions are now down to three offensive linemen from the class of 2022.

This includes Drew Shelton, who started the Maryland matchup at left tackle, guard Vega Ioane, and JB Nelson, the junior college transfer capable of playing in multiple spots. Penn State will kick off against Rutgers on Saturday for a 3:30 pm start on Big Ten Network.
