Penn State Basketball head coach Micah Shrewsberry is meeting with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to discuss their head coach vacancy, according to reports.
The Nittany Lions finished its 2022-2023 season last week, falling to the second-seeded Texas Longhorns. Surpassing expectations, the Penn State head coach has been linked to numerous jobs including Georgetown and Providence.
Am told by reliable source, Micah Shrewsberry now in talks with Notre Dame. I believe Penn State made its pitch. Whatever is going to happen, stay or go, will happen soon.

These reports started back in January and Nittany Central discussed the differences between the Nittany Lions, Hoys and Fighting Irish programs.

It appears Georgetown will be hiring Providence head coach Ed Cooley, removing one possibility but adding another as a potential landing space for Shrewsberry. According to reports, this is the first time it’s been known Shrewsberry is actually meeting with one of these institutions. His midwest roots from Indiana are well-documented and current success aside, the Notre Dame basketball program could be considered a better opportunity to coach college basketball. The Fighting Irish have a significant history in the sport of basketball, making the NCAA Tournament far more than they’ve missed in the past twenty-five years. Interesting timing as at least one transfer portal target was on campus visiting Penn State, but no matter what happens, it’s clear Micah Shrewsberry is very aware of the leverage he currently holds. Buckle up, it could be a very interesting few days.
