Penn State Football Recruiting: Ranking Nittany Lions’ Top-5 Targets as Critical Stretch Looms

Penn State Football

Penn State Football is entering a critical point in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

The official visit window will open next weekend, giving the Nittany Lions one last crack to win over most of their top targets.

The official visit window was kind to Penn State both in the 2022 and 2023 cycles, so the staff will look to make it three in a row.

The Nittany Lions already have 13 commits in their 2024 class, so spots are at a premium at this point. This allows the staff to turn up the heat on top targets and hope to secure their commitment sooner rather than later.

Here are five of the top targets for Penn State Football heading into the official visit window.

No. 5: 4-star DE Jaylen Harvey

Not many targets have been on the board longer than defensive end Jaylen Harvey from Maryland.

Harvey attends Quince Orchard, the same high school as current Penn State defensive end Chop Robinson. Harvey has felt like a Penn State lean for over a year now, and his official visit next month will be the Nittany Lions’ chance to secure a commitment from the 6-foot-2 defensive end.

No. 4: 4-star OT Kevin Heywood

Another target who’s been on the board for a while is 4-star offensive tackle Kevin Heywood.

The 6-foot-7 tackle from Royersford, PA may be the guy to fill the final tackle spot remaining in the 2024 class. The Nittany Lions already have two tackles committed in 4-star Garrett Sexton and 4-star Eagan Boyer, so the squeeze is definitely on Heywood. Keep an eye on him after the official visit window.

No. 3: 4-star ATH Liam Andrews

It’s not often that someone listed at 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds is considered an athlete, but that’s the case with top 100 recruit Liam Andrews.

Andrews has the skillset to play both offensive line and defensive tackle, making him one of the more intriguing recruits in the entire class. The Massachusetts product has the attention of most of the national powers, so this recruitment will be a battle.

If the Nittany Lions receive an official visit, they should like their chances though.

No. 2: 4-star WR Nick Marsh

One position Penn State Football can improve its recruiting at is wide receiver.

New wide receivers coach Marques Hagans has the challenge of doing just that.

One of the top targets is former Michigan State commit Nick Marsh. The 6-foot-3 top 100 recruit would be the highest rated wide receiver to commit to Penn State since Kaden Saunders in the 2022 class.

Penn State is slated to host Marsh for an official visit on June 9, this will be Hagans’ opportunity to make a big impression on him.

No. 1: 5-star LB Jamonta Waller

Penn State already has two linebackers in its 2024 class, but it will battle the majority of the SEC for one of the best in the country in Jamonta Waller.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Waller is from Mississippi but included Penn State in his top 9 group.

He, like Marsh, will be on campus on June 9 for an official visit. Adding Waller to an already elite linebacker room would take Penn State to another level on defense in the coming years.

This will be a tough pull out of the South, but with selling points like Micah Parsons and Abdul Carter, the Nittany Lions have a shot.
