New Penn State Football offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki’s hiring is drawing some high praise.
Retired 12-year NFL quarterback and current ESPN personality Dan Orlovsky took to X to complement James Franklin’s new offensive coordinator hire, Kotelnicki.
Orlovsky called the hire “fantastic,” calling Kotelnicki “super creative [and] open box mindset play designer and play caller.”

Orlovsky, widely known as ESPN’s “quarterback guru” has previously criticized Penn State’s playcalling after the Nittany Lions‘ 20-12 loss to Ohio State in October.
In a video posted after the game, Orlovsky criticized Penn State’s playcalling “putting [Allar] in the worst possible places” against Ohio State in constantly being behind the sticks. He further noted, “they didn’t protect Drew Allar”.

Orlovsky posted a separate tweet during the Penn State Football vs. Ohio State game criticizing the Nittany Lions’ offensive playcalling saying “if you’re gonna recruit a player like Allar … Let the young man go play.”
Franklin and Penn State Football hope that those issues are things of the past, after moving on from former offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich.
