Micah Parsons Makes Stunning Trade Request: Best Fits for Former Penn State Star

It’s been strange over the past 24 hours in the NFL with star players demanding trades. Washington Commanders star receiver Terry McLaurin asked to be traded on Thursday night, and Dallas Cowboys pass rusher and former Penn State Football All-American Micah Parsons requested a trade on Friday afternoon.

Both players are dealing with contract disputes with their current teams. McLaurin and Parsons are both former Big Ten stars, with McLaurin playing at Ohio State and Parsons at Penn State.

Parsons played two years at Penn State in 2018 and 2019, recording 6.5 sacks in 26 games. The 26-year-old pass rusher sat out the 2020 college season due to COVID-19, which is the reason why he only suited up at Penn State for two years.

Even though Parsons didn’t play his junior season, he was still drafted 12th overall by Dallas in 2020. Now there is a chance that a four-time Pro Bowler has played his last game for the Cowboys.

If Dallas does move Parsons, almost every team will try to trade for him, and here are some suitors that make the most sense.

Micah Parsons’ Best Trade Fits

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots have some of the most cap space in the NFL, and a significant reason for this is that their quarterback, Drake Maye, is still on a rookie deal. Maye is entering his second season and could take a sophomore leap, similar to what we’ve seen with quarterbacks in the past.

The Patriots could be a Parsons away from having a great defense, which could help Maye and the offense out. New England has the draft capital to get a deal done, but now it will be up to the Cowboys to move him.

Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers should try to make a splash. Quarterback Bryce Young is entering his third season and has improved drastically toward the end of last year.

Carolina traded their Pro Bowl pass rusher, Brian Burns, to the New York Giants last offseason, so the Panthers could be looking to add a new one.

Just like New England, Carolina has draft capital to get a deal done. Why not trade for Parsons and see if the NFC South could go to the Panthers?

Chicago makes a lot of sense to add Parsons. Just like New England, the Bears are working with a second-year quarterback in Caleb Williams. Chicago has a good pass rusher in Montez Sweat, but pairing him with Parsons could make the defense one of the best in football.

A good defense is always a great thing for a young quarterback to have, and Williams could benefit a ton from Parsons being on the team.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers parted ways with pass rusher Joey Bosa this offseason, and now the team should try to pair Parsons with linebacker Khalil Mack.

Los Angeles is trying to take down the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West. The best way of doing it is by getting to quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The Chargers are in win-now mode and would be a nice place for Parsons to continue his NFL career.
