Micah Shrewsberry Addresses Georgetown, Notre Dame rumors after Penn State Basketball win

Penn State Basketball

The rumors have started to pick up about other programs interested in Penn State Basketball head coach Micah Shrewsberry.

Pete Thamel of ESPN linked Shrewsberry as a candidate for the Notre Dame opening. Likewise, Shrewsberry’s name has also been linked to the Georgetown job, which CBS broadcasters talked about during Penn State’s 77-73 win over Indiana.

Naturally, Shrewsberry was asked about these rumors post game.

“I am like, basketball season is going on,” Shrewsberry told reporters following Saturday’s game. “I am completely tunnel vision on our team. And State [College] High basketball.”

Without dismissing the speculation, Shrewsberry acknowledged that Penn State Basketball was among his lone suitors two years ago.

“I’m happy to be here. Nobody wanted me a few years ago,” Shrewsberry added. “I’m happy to be here. I love our guys, we’re gonna prepare to play for a championship tomorrow.”

What does that mean for the future of the Penn State head basketball coach?

It is still an uncertain future.

Athletic director Pat Kraft, one can imagine, will do everything in his power to keep Shrewsberry in State College.

The head coaches comments should be a sign to craft and Penn State as a whole, that Shrewsberry seems and sounds very committed to Penn State.

NIL collectives, PSU boosters, alumni, and fans will have a role to play in this as well. Filling seats at the Bryce Jordan, buying season tickets, supporting the NIL devoted to the basketball team. All those acts will increase the chances that Micah Shrewsberry continues to build what he is building at Penn State.

We all know Pat Kraft will do everything we can, it’s time for the rest of the Penn State to buy into not just Shrewsberry but the basketball program and do the same.

Micah Shrewsberry and Penn State Basketball play for the Big Ten Conference Championship, on Sunday, March 12 at 3:30 p.m. against Purdue.
