5 Ways Penn State Can Get The Most Out of Renovated Beaver Stadium

There is a certain buzz when your team announces that it is going to make renovations to your venue that would draw more people to come out to your games, and more. That is what Penn State is about to do with Beaver Stadium.

Back in February, Penn State announced that Beaver Stadium would go under renovation to make it more modern, and set the stage for staging College Football Playoff games and events outside of football season inside the 107,000 seat behemoth.

On Thursday, Penn State unveiled the new Tunnel Club at Beaver Stadium which includes an open bar, private WiFI, a front-row view of the team’s entrance

So, how can Penn State utilize their new renovations at Beaver Stadium?

Here are 5 events that Penn State could hold in a modernized Beaver Stadium

Host more outdoor concerts

The last concert at Beaver Stadium was July 08, 2017, & featured Blake Shelton / Chris Young / Big and Rich. This is an excellent chance to showcase Beaver Stadium. Just think of legacy rockers like Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band, or the Rolling Stones bringing their tours outside, from the confines of the Bryce Jordan Center. Besides, isn’t State College the ideal Taylor Swift market?

OUTDOOR Hockey

There have been talks about Beaver Stadium hosting the NHL Winter Classic between the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Philadelphia Flyers, for years now.

This would be huge for the state, featuring one of the greatest rivalries in the NHL, while shining a bright light on Penn State.

The largest crowd for an NHL game is 105,491 when Michigan hosted the Winter Classic in 2014, Penn State Beaver Stadium would get very close to tying or even breaking the record, something to think about.

Penn State Hockey outdoors

Penn State has taken part in outdoor hockey only 1 time in 2012, when they took on Neumann University at Citizens Bank Park.

Now, with all the renovations ongoing at Beaver Stadium, this would be a great opportunity to showcase the growth of the program and do it against one of their rivals such as Michigan, Notre Dame, Michigan State or Ohio State.

We have seen Michigan Stadium, Camp Randall Stadium, TCF Bank Stadium, and Notre Dame Stadium host outdoor games &  now it is time for Beaver Stadium to be added to the list.

Penn State Lacrosse?

Now that the Nittany Lions Mens Lacrosse made the Final Four for the second time in program history, this is a good chance for them to play one game at Beaver Stadium each season. Similarly to the Penn State Wrestling program hosting a big meet each year inside the Bryce Jordan Center, this would be a very good opportunity to showcase the program. Especially if the Lax team would play the likes of Michigan, Notre Dame, Duke, Syracuse who are powerhouses in Lacrosse.

Soccer?

It’s doubtful that State College and Beaver Stadium could draw a future World Cup, but a Premier League friendly? That’s another story.

Beaver Stadium has the potential to be a venue to host international soccer as we have seen Michigan & Notre Dame host soccer games
