Another Top Penn State Coaching Candidate Nearing a Contract Extension: Report

Penn State’s list of potential head coaching targets just got shorter. Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm, one of the more intriguing names linked to the Nittany Lions’ vacancy, is reportedly finalizing a contract extension, according to On3. Brohm’s deal takes yet another major name off the board as the national coaching carousel continues to spin out of control.

Brohm is 146-92 during his 12 years of coaching at Western Kentucky, Purdue, and now his alma mater, Lousiville. His name was linked to the Penn State job as well as several others around the country.

The streak that saw Curt Cignetti, Matt Rhule, Rhett Lashlee and now Jeff Brohm get paid lives on.

The influx of coaches signing extensions comes during an already crazy coaching carousel. Florida, Penn State, LSU, and Auburn are all major programs looking for a new leader.

Additionally, there has been whispers of Texas coming open and potentially Clemson firing Dabo Swinney.

The already coaching carousel is primed to get even crazier.

For Penn State, Jeff Brohm is now crossed off the list. The name that has made the most sense from the beginning is Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz. With Missouri effectively eliminated from playoff contention, expect the Drinkwitz smoke to continue.

Additionally, Mike Elko and Kalen DeBoer have notably not signed any contract extensions.

Pat Kraft will continue to try to pull of the improbable and get one of Elko or DeBoer. On top of those three candidates, there are plenty of solid candidates like Brian Hartline, Manny Diaz, or even Will Stein to fall back on.
