Penn State Football Schedule: 3 Trap games Nittany Lions Must Worry About in 2023

The 2023 College Football season is a little month away, and Penn State Football has a good team that should be able to compete for a College Football Playoff spot.

Every season, teams have to worry about trap games on their schedule, the Nittany Lions have a few games that could sneak up and derail a season.

Here are 3 Trap Games Penn State Football Must Worry About:

September 2nd, vs. West Virginia

The Nittany Lions open the season at home against West Virginia.

Penn State Football will be favored to win, and West Virginia will have a new quarterback, but have all five offensive linemen returning.

It’s the season’s first game, so both teams will be fresh and ready to play. The Nittany Lions must come out and handle business.

September 16th, at Illinois

Before Penn State Football hosts Iowa at home, they travel to Illinois o to take on the Fighting Illini.

It will be a challenging game for the Nittany Lions, because of Illinois’ tough defense.

Last season, the Fighting Illini led the nation in scoring defense, giving up just 12.8 points per game. They held opposing teams to under 50% passing and intercepted 22 passes.

Illinois has six returning starters back on the nation-lead defense. This game should be a good gauge for Penn State’s offense and quarterback Drew Allar.

November 4th, at Maryland

The Maryland game is a week before the big home game against Michigan.

Penn State Football will need to be focused and not look ahead.

The Terrapins bring back quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa for a fifth season, and Maryland has playmakers in the skill positions like running back Roman Hemby and receiver Jeshaun Jones.

The Nittany must treat this game like a business trip and slip because they play Michigan the following week.

Penn State’s head coach, James Franklin, must ensure his team is ready to play these three games; they cannot afford a slip if the Nittany Lions want to make the Playoff.
