First Penn State Football Player Enters Transfer Portal, Report Says

Penn State Fotball enters December heading to the team’s first Big Ten championship game since 2016 after beating Maryland Saturday and watching the Ohio State Buckeyes fall to the Michigan Wolverines.

While the Big Ten championship game will be drawing attention from around the nation, the coaching staff will be splitting time between prepping for the Nittany Lions‘ biggest game of the season, locking down the 2025 class for National Signing Day on Wednesday, and pushing to keep the roster intact with the transfer portal opening this week.

On Monday, however, On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos reported that Penn State’s first player to enter the transfer portal during this transfer window will be tight end Jerry Cross.

Jerry Cross is a redshirt freshman tight end from the 2022 class. Cross was rated as a four-star tight end and the number nine tight end in the nation in the 2022 class, per the 247Sports composite rankings.

Cross played in seven games over three seasons for the Nittany Lions but did not record any stats during his time at Penn State.

Penn State has primarily used superstar tight end Tyler Warren this season, pairing him with true freshman Luke Reynolds and redshirt junior Khalil Dinkins in two-tight end sets.

With Tyler Warren’s departure for the NFL draft this offseason and Cross’ departure via the transfer portal, Penn State will have four scholarship tight ends on the roster (Dinkins, Reynolds, Andrew Rappleyea, and Joey Schlaffer), and will add three-star class of 2025 tight end Matt Henderson.

Penn State is also pushing for a last-minute flip of 2025 Michigan commit Andrew Olesh as signing day approaches this week.
