How New NFL Kickoff Rule Might Impact Penn State Football

As everyone knows in sports there are always finding ways to make the game exciting and also the safety of the players do some into play, that has especially been true in the NFL in recent days, but might ultimately impact Penn State Football in the future.

Tuesday, the NFL passed a new Rule for the kickoff which will be in the trial stage 4 for the 2024 season.

Here’s what the new kickoff is going to look like on Sundays across the NFL:

The new rules are as follows

• The kicking team, other than the kicker, cannot move until the ball hits the ground or player in the landing zone or the end zone.

• All players on the receiving team in the setup zone cannot move until the kick has hit the ground or a player in the landing or end zone.

• Any kick that hits in the Landing Zone must be returned.

• Any kick hits before the landing zone is a touchback to the 40.

• If a kick hits the Landing Zone, rolls into the end zone, and is downed, it’s touchback to the 20.

• If a kick lands in the end zone or goes out the back, it’s a touchback to the 35.

Will Penn State Football Eventually Need to Deal With This Change?

How the NCAA ultimately handles kickoffs in the future remains to be seen.

However, in an era where player safety has rightfully become a top priority, it’s easy to picture a future where the college rules mirror what the NFL unveiled for the upcoming season.
