Guessing Penn State’s ESPN College GameDay Guest Picker vs. Ohio State

ESPN’s College GameDay will be back in town for an absolutely jam-packed weekend in Happy Valley next Saturday.

For the first time since 1999, Beaver Stadium will play host to a top-5 matchup as the Ohio State Buckeyes come to town to take on No. 3 Penn State Football.

Next week’s matchup will also be the first time College Gameday is in town since Penn State’s 2021 Whiteout against Auburn. However, College GameDay is no stranger to Penn State and Ohio State.

This will be the 13th time the iconic college football show will appear for a matchup between the Nittany Lions and the Buckeyes. So the question is, who will be Penn State’s guest picker for the iconic show? We have some options.

LaVar Arrington

Legendary Penn State linebacker LaVar Arrington has been heavily involved with the program since he was a standout all-American and number 2 overall pick in the 2000 NFL draft. His son, LaVar Arrington Jr is also a 2025 Penn State commit. Arrington is part of the famous “Stix” brotherhood for Penn State linebackers making #11 famous in Happy Valley.

Sue Paterno

The Paterno family has been a long partner of Penn State University. Sue’s late husband Joe Paterno holds the NCAA record for the most wins as a head coach in FBS football, with 409. Joe and Sue donated millions to both Penn State and the special Olympics. Sue was honored this year by Penn State’s Women’s Philanthropic Advisory Board as an “Inspiring Women Spotlight” for her dedication to “supporting women and inspiring others.”

Trace McSorley

Who better to represent the 2024 Penn State team on College Gameday than the last Penn State quarterback to defeat the Buckeyes?
Trace McSorley helped lift the 2016 Penn State team to a win over #2 Ohio State and a Big Ten championship (James Franklin’s lone conference championship). With the potential for his number-sake backup quarterback Beau Pribula to get a potential start against a top 5 Buckeyes team, Trace would be an excellent choice as guest picker.

Grant Haley/Marcus Allen

For the same reasons as Trace McSorley, Penn State legends Grant Haley or Marcus Allen could be excellent guest pickers for the Nittany Lions this weekend.
Both teamed up on one of Penn State’s most iconic plays in history, blocking a field goal and returning it for a touchdown in Penn State’s 2016 win over the Buckeyes.
We will anxiously wait and see who College Gameday selects as the guest picker Saturday.  We will also wait to see if Lee Corso will don the iconic Nittany Lion headgear Saturday as he did against Auburn the last time Gameday was on campus.
