Penn State Football Adds Potential Game-Changing Portal Pickup

Penn State Football added another much needed wide receiver to their roster as Troy’s Devonte Ross is transferring to Happy Valley.

Even though we’re one week out from the Nittany Lions‘ Fiesta Bowl matchup against Boise State, head coach James Franklin and his coaching staff are hitting the Transfer Portal hard.

Just last week, Penn State found out they had landed a commitment from USC’s Kyron Hudson to help bolster their thin wide receiver room.

Well, news just broke about another pass catcher who’s bringing his talents to Central Pennsylvania.

Out of Cartersville, Georgia, Ross was a three-star recruit (according to 247) where he initially committed to Kentucky. However shortly after he signed his letter of intent Devonte enrolled at Troy.

Ross played sparingly in his first two seasons at Troy where he compiled 53 receptions for 575 yards and three touchdowns. But what he did his junior year is what started to turn some head around the nation. The 5-foot-11 and 170-pound speedster torched the Sun Belt to the tune of 76 receptions for 1043 and 11 touchdowns.

Obviously, the difficulty of Troy’s opponents aren’t exactly on the same level as most of Penn State’s. But, when you add the fact that Drew Allar is coming back next year, the sure hands of Kyron Hudson, and the shiftiness of Ross, then the Nittany Lions may have a recipe for a more diverse air attack next year.

Additionally, if former five-star recruit Luke Reynolds is able to fill the giant gap left behind by Tyler Warren’s exit, then it could be a banner year for Allar and crew.
